For Admin and Manager Users who need to see the Clipboard Portal as a student or parent.
Staff Users can't log in to the Clipboard Portal themselves — only students and parents/guardians can. The Impersonate feature lets you view the Portal exactly as a student or parent sees it, so you can check that everything is set up correctly before they log in.
What is the Impersonate feature?
Impersonating lets you view a student's or parent's Clipboard Portal account from their point of view. Because you can't access the Portal as a Staff member, impersonating is the way to see what your students and parents/guardians will see.
What can I use it for?
Impersonating a Portal account is useful any time you want to confirm what a student or parent will experience in the Portal. For example, when setting up Activity Selection you can impersonate a test account to check:
That the selection requirements are correct
How many Activities appear in a Selection Group
How images and branding look
That Activity Selection Payments work as expected
Important: all impersonations are real
Any action you take while impersonating an account is a real action on that account.
Selections made while impersonating can be removed afterwards.
An invoice generated while impersonating cannot be removed from your Activity Selection Invoices.
For this reason, we strongly recommend impersonating a test student or parent account rather than a real one when checking your setup.

Why can't I just log in to the Portal as a Staff member?
Only students and parents/guardians can log in to the Clipboard Portal, so Staff Users can't access it directly. Impersonating a student or parent account is how you view the Portal from their side.
Are the actions I take while impersonating real?
Yes. Every impersonation session is real, so any action you take in a student or parent account genuinely happens on that account. Selections can be removed afterwards, but an invoice can't be removed from your Activity Selection Invoices — so use a test account where possible.
Should I impersonate a real account or a test account?
We recommend using a test account when checking your setup, so any actions you take don't affect a real student or parent. Create a test student account and a test parent account, especially if you're testing Activity Selection Payments.
Can I test Payments by impersonating?
Yes. Impersonate a test parent account to check that Activity Selection Payments work as expected. Keep in mind that any invoice generated stays in your Activity Selection Invoices and can't be removed.
