What Are Friendly Fixtures?
Friendly Fixtures are matches scheduled between teams that exist outside your formal competition structure. Unlike competition fixtures that contribute to ladder points and standings, Friendly Fixtures are for:
Practice matches between schools
Cross-grade matchups (e.g., Year 9 vs Year 10)
Intraschool fixtures between teams from the same school
Pre-season warm-up games
Additional match opportunities outside competition rounds
Key difference: Friendly Fixtures do not affect ladder positions or competition points, but they appear in schools' Fixtures Inboxes and require the same acceptance workflow as competition fixtures.
Creating a Friendly Fixture
Only association administrators can create Friendly Fixtures in Compete.
Creating a Friendly Fixture follows the same process as manually creating any fixture in Compete, with one key difference: select the 'Friendly' checkbox in the fixture creation sheet.
This ensures the Fixture:
Does not count towards ladder points
Is clearly identified as a Friendly in all views
Can be filtered separately from Competition fixtures
Important: Friendly Fixtures cannot be created using the Fixture Generator.
Finding and Filtering Friendly Fixtures
For Association Administrators
Friendly Fixtures appear in your Compete Fixture List webpage, integrated with your regular competition fixtures.
Using the Fixture Type Filter:
Navigate to your Fixtures page in Compete
Look for the Fixture Type filter
Select Friendly to show only Friendly Fixtures, or deselect to hide them
Combine with other filters like Round Robin and Knockout to customise your view
For Schools: Grade Filter
In the Compete webpage, when you select a specific Grade in the filters, you'll see ALL fixtures where teams in that Grade participate, including:
Competition fixtures
Friendly fixtures
Knockout fixtures
This ensures that staff, guardians, and students never miss games scheduled as Friendlies.
For Schools: Fixtures Inbox Workflow
When your association creates a Friendly Fixture involving your teams, Friendlies appear just like any Competition Fixture:
The fixture appears in your Fixtures Inbox under the New tab
Review the fixture details
Accept the fixture to trigger notifications to your staff, guardians and students
Until accepted, non-admin users won't see the fixture in their schedules
Important: Friendly Fixtures count as future fixtures for the purpose of team withdrawal. A team cannot be removed from a competition while they have Friendly Fixtures scheduled.
Key Points to Remember
Creating: Select the 'Friendly' checkbox when creating any fixture
Filtering: Use the Fixture Type filter to show/hide Friendly Fixtures
Grade View: Friendly Fixtures automatically appear when you filter by Grade
Workflow: Friendly Fixtures follow the same Fixtures Inbox acceptance process
Location: Appear within Competitions on the association's Fixture List webpage
Results: Can be recorded just like a regular Fixture (but don't count towards ladder standings)
