This process requires Admin or Manager access or for Staff users with Extra Access Options that allow them to create their own Sessions. If you are unable to complete any of the steps, please check with a Clipboard Admin at your school.
Optional Attendance allows students to be marked present at a Session without automatically marking students who didn't attend as absent. This feature isn't available when marking Rolls on Fixtures.
For example, if your school has an open Gym Session that does not require mandatory attendance by those assigned to that Session, you can create the Session with optional attendance and then only those students who are marked present will have attendance recorded. So if a Team has 15 students, and only 7 attend the Session, the 8 students who didn't attend won't have any attendance recorded.
To create a Session with Optional Attendance:
Follow the steps for Creating Sessions by default
Before clicking Create, tick the Optional box to make student attendance optional (see image below)
Click Create and tick the boxes to send notifications to staff, students and parents where applicable
Note: A Session with optional attendance will require staff to mark students who are present, even if the roll settings for the Activity are set as present by default. Read more about the roll styles in our article Present vs Absent by Default.
