Managing Activity Trials and Auditions on Clipboard

Find out how to create and manage trial teams - then organising students into actual teams.

Schools often conduct trials before placing students into Teams (or alternatively named, Groups). This can easily be managed on Clipboard and makes the process of moving students into their graded teams very quick after the trial takes place.

The best way to do this is to create audition/trials teams or trial squads. This is just like creating a regular Team, with the added benefit that you can add those trial teams to the schedule too.

We have used Basketball as an example below, but you can use the same method for any Activity, including music ensemble auditions, debating try-outs or even auditions for the school play and musical!

To create a trial or audition Team:

1. Name and Create your Team: Depending on how you run trials at your school, how you name your trial Teams will differ. For example, if all Year 7 students try out for basketball together, you could create just one basketball '7 Trials' team, with all the students who are trying out included in that team. Alternatively, suppose you have larger groups trialling for teams. In that case, you can split them into multiple teams and still schedule them on the same Session, e.g. 'Y8 Basketball Trials Group 1', 'Y8 Basketball Trials Group 2' etc - this makes roll marking easier too!

2. Schedule the Session: Create a one-off Session in the Schedule and include all the trial Teams in that Session. This allows you to mark the roll and comment on each student's performance.

3. Once you have determined the teams from trials, then you can just Quick Create Teams and drag/move students from the trial Teams into their new Teams! Check out our articles on Moving Students between Teams and Team Power View.
