Only Admins and Managers can create and manage Team Categories, but they are visible to all users.
Teams and Groups are interchangeable terms in Clipboard.
Sometimes you may want to organise Teams (or alternatively named, Groups) in some way, whether it's into age groups or some other category type. This is what Team Categories are for in Clipboard.
Team Categories are entirely optional. For example, using Team Categories may be unnecessary overkill if you have an Activity that only has a small number of Teams.
When you create Team Categories, you do so for a specific Activity. So Activity A can have its own Team Categories that are different to Activity B.
What Should I Use Team Categories For?
Here are just a few example use cases for (or against) Team Categories.
✅ You have an Activity, Rugby, with lots of Teams, and all these Teams have an associated age group. You may want to use Team Categories to categorise the Teams into their corresponding age groups.
✅ You have an Activity, Netball, with Teams in the Junior, Middle and Senior school. This could be a good use case for Team Categories because it means you don't need to create three separate Activities. You can use three Team Categories to categorise your Teams: Junior, Middle and Senior.
❌ You have an Activity, Debating, that has only two Teams. You probably shouldn't use Team Categories, because you won't gain anything from organising your two Teams into different Categories.
Using Team Categories
Admins and Managers can create Team Categories and then organise Teams within them, as shown below.
Creating Team Categories
Go to Teams
Use the filters to select the correct Activity and Hidden status
To create the first team category click More, select Create a Team Category from the dropdown
To create additional team categories, click the Create a Team Category button at the bottom of the Team page.
Type a name for the Category.
Save it by pressing enter or clicking the save icon.
Creating Team Sub Categories
Create a Category
Hover over the Category
Select the Create Subcategory button
Categorising Teams
Click the three dots icon on the Team you want to categorise.
Select Set Category.
Pick the Category you want this Team to fall under OR use the Change order of Teams option. This is a better way to quickly categorise many Teams at once. Read this article to learn how to do this.
Deleting Team Categories
You can discard Team Categories by clicking the red button next to the Category name (when you hover over the Activity).
Deleting/discarding a Team Category does not delete the Teams within it. It simply moves them to (No Category). So don't be afraid to do this!
Editing Team Categories
Categories can be easily edited by clicking on the pencil/edit icon next to the Category title.
