We are frequently asked at Clipboard about the best way to manage Teams between your school's SIS and Clipboard.
Teams can't be synced into Clipboard via SIS integration. Because of the flexible nature and ease of managing Teams in Clipboard, we recommend all schools manage their Teams within Clipboard daily, and then upload them to the SIS or send them back to the SIS via API as frequently as required. Please review Clipboard's Team writeback integration with the SIS, Compass.
Step 1: Create/Update Teams in Clipboard
Please take a look at our article on Creating Teams for details on creating new ones. For updating existing Teams, you can follow the steps in this article.
Teams should be set with SIS IDs, and Activities should have SIS codes so that the Teams in Clipboard match what is in your SIS.
To set an Activity SIS code, simply:
Go to Settings
Click on the specific Activity
On the Basic Details tab, click Edit in the Customise your Activity Section
Add your Activity SIS code and Save
To set up a Team SIS code, please take a look at the steps in our article here.
Step 2: Send Team data back to the SIS
There are two options for achieving this: a) using our Team CSV export or b) using our APIs.
Option A: Using a Team CSV Export
We suggest using the Team Records export option, as it will give you the entire list of all students within a Team for an Activity, including when a student was removed from a Team.
You can also export all Activities, including the Activity and Team SIS ID. This allows you to easily extract all Team data from Clipboard and upload it back into your SIS for reporting purposes. Please take a look at our steps in this article on how to export.
Option B: Using our API
Just so you know, setting this up will require assistance from your school's IT department.
For pulling data from Clipboard via API, there are two endpoints which you can pull data from Teams or Student Teams API's. Please take a look at our API documentation on how to set this up and what fields both of the above APIs pull. This data can be setup to be sent directly to your SIS.
