Clipboard has three user types and each corresponds to varying levels of access to features within Clipboard:
Admin
Manager
Staff
An Admin user oversees and is responsible for all Activities, Teams and users within one or more Departments. Example: Head of Music or Head of Sport.
A Manager user is responsible for one or more Activities and oversees the Staff and Teams within that Activity. Example: Choir Master or Head of Netball.
A Staff user is a base-level user who is responsible only for the Teams their Manager has assigned them to. Example: Violin Tutor or Netball Coach.

There are also two additional admin user types in Clipboard:
A Finance Admin is responsible for overseeing and processing Timesheets on Clipboard. This is available if a school has elected for the Timesheets Module.
An IT admin is responsible for overseeing the technical side of Clipboard for schools - from the environment to ensuring integration and syncs are running correctly.

FAQ
Can a user in Clipboard have two user types? What if they are a Manager in one Activity but have Staff level responsibilities for another?
Each user in Clipboard can only be assigned one user type. If a staff member performs Manager-level functions for any Activity, their user type needs to be set to Manager across the board.
For example, if Sally manages the Dance program but also teaches Strength and Conditioning under Sport, she should be set as a Manager — not a Staff user in Sport and a Manager in Dance. Since Manager access sits at a higher level than Staff, she'll still be able to fulfil her responsibilities across both Activities without needing a second account or using an extra licence.
Clipboard has released a feature that allows staff to easily switch between user accounts without logging out. This feature is useful for users who have Admin responsibilities in one Department but have Manager or Staff-level responsibilities for other Departments or Activities.
For more information on how to complete this please refer to the Account Switching article.
Can I schedule a Manger or Admin User to a Session within an Activity or Department that they don't manage?
A Session will not appear on a Manager's Clipboard Schedule if they are not assigned to the Activity. Similarly, Admin Users will not see Sessions on their Clipboard Schedule if the Sessions do not fall within the Department that they are an Admin for. You can update the Activities for Managers and Departments for Admin by editing their Staff Profile on the Staff Page.
As the Clipboard Schedule is filtered by Departments and Activities assigned to Users, it is best practice for a Manager User to be assigned to any Activities that they will have Sessions for and for Admin Users to be assigned to any Departments that they will have Sessions for.
Staff Users are not affected by this - they can view all Sessions they are assigned to on the Staff Profile Schedule and Clipboard Schedule no matter what Activities they have been added to.
