A Fixture is another term for a competitive game. You can create multiple rounds of Fixtures for multiple Activities at once!
There are two ways to create Fixtures:
Typing fixtures manually into the in-built Clipboard spreadsheet.
Importing a spreadsheet file
You can create a Fixture from the Schedule page or directly via the Fixtures page.
Why add your Fixtures manually?
This method is good if you don’t get anything from an Association, are creating internal fixtures, or building from scratch. You can also drag to copy or copy and paste data into the cells.
Why Import your Fixtures from a spreadsheet file?
This is a good method if you have a spreadsheet from your Association or have an existing spreadsheet you’d like to use. It doesn’t have to be in a particular format. Clipboard will get you to pick the fields it matches in Clipboard.
Over time, your teams, opponent teams and locations will match-up automatically based on your previous uploads! That means a faster process for every upload!
Watch below on how to create your first fixtures in Clipboard manually or importing via Spreadsheet.
To create a Fixture:
Option 1 - How to add Fixtures manually:
Go to Fixtures
Click the More button in the top right, then select Create Fixtures. You will now see the in-built Clipboard spreadsheet.
From here, you can add Fixtures manually by typing into the spreadsheet.
Option 2 - How to add Fixtures via an existing spreadsheet:
Follow the first two steps above.
Click Import Fixtures in the top left corner.
Import your fixtures by clicking the Upload a Spreadsheet button and selecting the file you want.
Alternatively, you can paste data directly into the Paste Fixtures Here area.
Note: You can clear the import to upload or paste new data if you need to via the Clear Import button under the data.
Click Next.
You may need to match the column headings in the imported spreadsheet to the corresponding headings in Clipboard, such as Date, Activity, Team, and Opponent. If you have additional Custom Fields, you can map them here too, such as Arrival Time or Bus Number.
Select the upload perspective; Association or School. Clipboard will try to automatically select the perspective depending on the data in the spreadsheet. For instance, if we detect two school columns, it will default to Association Perspective. See more on this topic in our FAQ 'What are Upload Perspectives?'.
Note: You may already have some column headings auto-matched for you. To help you match correctly, you can see examples of the data within that column in the heading menu.
Once you are happy with this, click Next.
You can now match the values from your imported file to the corresponding values in Clipboard. Clipboard will remember your selections for the next time you import similar data. Mapping values here will be faster than selecting them individually in the populated spreadsheet.
When you are done, click Populate Spreadsheet.
To Finalise your Fixtures:
After you have the data populated manually or via spreadsheet, follow the steps below to finalise and create your Fixtures:
Check that the following data has been entered correctly and edit Fixtures if needed before creation:
Check end times if there are none; the Fixture will default to 60 minutes.
Check that the round names are consistent
Check that the correct Teams, Locations, and Staff have been chosen.
Check if any Fixtures need to be marked as a bye
Check you need to enable reminder notifications. If ticked, Staff will be sent a reminder notification for their assigned fixture at 5 pm the day before.
Remember to choose the status of Fixtures as Draft, Unconfirmed or Confirmed. Note: If no status is given, Fixtures will be created as confirmed.
Draft - Fixtures are only visible to Admins and Managers and can be edited, cancelled or deleted without notifying Staff, students or parents.
Unconfirmed - Fixtures are visible to everyone, but this status indicates that details may be changed at a later date.
Confirmed - Fixtures are visible to everyone, and this status indicates that the details of the Fixtures are correct and will go ahead.
Once you are satisfied that the fixtures are correct, click Create (top right). A pop-up window will ask you to confirm your selection for creating fixtures and give you the option to notify Staff and/or students and parents via a Push Notification. (Read more in the article: Notifications that Students and Parents can receive from Clipboard.) Then click Create.
Now your Fixtures have been created!

FAQ
Why does my fixture title show my school's name instead of the opponent?
This happens when the Opponent School field is left blank. Clipboard treats the fixture as an intra-school match (two teams from the same school), which causes your school's short name to appear in the fixture title.
Currently, Clipboard's fixture system is designed around school-vs-school matches, so there's no option to leave the opponent field blank. You can now enter an opponent club, an external team, or a non-Clipboard school user.
What are Upload Perspectives?
Fixture spreadsheets seem to come in two types:
The school perspective is where it only lists the sessions the school is playing and considers the other team the opponent. The user’s school’s team should only be in the one column that gets matched to ‘Team’.
The association perspective is when an association puts out a big list of every game with one team vs. another team, often considering one the home team and the other the away team. From the association perspective, the user’s school’s team could be in either column, where in the school perspective,
Clipboard will try to automatically select the upload perspective depending on the data in the spreadsheet. i.e. if we detect Home/Away teams, it will be Association Perspective.
How do I ensure that my assigned staff to the team appear in the Fixture spreadsheet when uploading Fixtures?
The Fixture spreadsheet will work as follows:
When a Team cell is updated manually, we pre-fill the Staff column. This includes manually selecting a team or pasting a team from another cell or plain text.
When copying and pasting a whole row, we don't update the staff column. This means whether the Staff column has value or not, the pasted row should be identical to the copied one.
When importing an Excel spreadsheet into our fixtures spreadsheet, there are two scenarios:
- If the Excel includes a Team column but no Staff column, we pre-fill the Staff column
- If the Excel includes a Staff column, we import the column as is whether the cells have value or not. If your staff column is blank, Clipboard will upload no staff to the fixtures. If you remove this column, the staff will pre-fill according to the point above.
Tip!: We have a handy reminder explaining the information for the staff columns when importing your Fixtures; see the image below.
